FIRST BLOOD IS ACTION AT ITS FINEST

Posted by admin in Saturday, July 31, 2010

Action movies are always on satellite tv in Florida. From superhero to detective flicks, they are globally popular. With so many movies to choose from, they truly offer non-stop entertainment. My favorite action movie of all time is “First Blood.” This was the first installment in the “Rambo” series. It stars the action icon, Sylvester Stallone, who portrays a Vietnam veteran. As John Rambo, a sheriff in a small Pacific Northwest town harasses Stallone. This leads to an unjust arrest, with Rambo defying the corrupt sheriff at every turn. As the confrontation escalates, Rambo makes a daring escape and a statewide manhunt pursues.

I love watching this movie on satellite TV. With gut wrenching and thrilling scenes, it keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The sheriff, played by Brian Dennehy, is no match for Rambo’s wits and military training. He watches helplessly as Rambo dismantles his entire unit. The National Guard is even sent in to stop Rambo to no avail. As the pursuit continues, Rambo becomes the hunter, and the officers the hunted. I enjoy how Rambo utilizes the forest terrain to his advantage. Colonel Trautman, played by Richard Crenna, is the only one that can end this turmoil. As Rambo’s Colonel in ‘Nam, he is sent in to diffuse the situation. He also convinces John to surrender to authorities. This is the climax of the film, which is truly emotional. The interaction between Stallone and Crenna is simply priceless.
